Israeli Government Seeks Reopening Netanyahu Corruption Case

(MENAFN) The Israeli administration is preparing to submit a legislative proposal on Monday that could potentially lead to a reassessment of the corruption allegations involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to reports from a broadcaster.

The national broadcaster, stated: “The government intends this afternoon to present the bill…for a vote at the opening of the Knesset’s winter session.”

This session is set to resume later today following a three-month break.

The proposal seeks to designate a new state attorney to replace the current legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara.

This shift in legal leadership may pave the way for a fresh evaluation of the corruption charges currently facing Prime Minister Netanyahu, the broadcaster reported.

According to the same source, the legislative measure is expected to be submitted for a vote in the Knesset next Wednesday.

Baharav-Miara has consistently resisted attempts to halt the legal proceedings against Netanyahu.

The broadcaster noted: “The current legal adviser, Baharav-Miara, does not intend to use her powers to suspend the proceedings, while the government continues its efforts to reduce her authority or replace her through proposed legal amendments.”

The broadcaster also highlighted efforts by the ruling alliance—including Likud, Religious Zionism, and Jewish Power—to convince the ultra-Orthodox factions, Shas and United Torah Judaism, to abandon their boycott of the vote.

Their resistance, driven by disagreements surrounding the Haredi military draft legislation, currently poses an obstacle to advancing this particular bill.
