Halkbank Vows to Continue Legal Fight After Appeal Rejection

(MENAFN) Turkish public bank Halkbank announced on Monday that the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to consider its appeal does not signify the conclusion of the legal process.

According to the lender, the legal battle will proceed through standard judicial channels.

In an official statement, Halkbank explained, "As is known, in the process regarding Halkbank's ongoing criminal case in the USA; the Second Circuit rejected our Bank's common law immunity request on October 22, 2024."

The bank emphasized that this development is not the final word on the matter, insisting the case remains active.

The lender clarified, "This development does not mean that the legal proceedings are finalized. The process will go forward in its ordinary course, and our Bank will continue to assert all its legal rights."

The institution highlighted its commitment to pursuing every legal avenue available.

Furthermore, Halkbank indicated that attempts to establish a legal basis for a potential settlement—based on mutual agreements between Türkiye and the United States—are progressing in a constructive manner.

Earlier on Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Halkbank’s appeal, thereby upholding a lower court’s decision that the state-owned financial institution is not protected from prosecution under common law immunity.
