Indonesia Hails Macron's Move to Recognize Palestinian State
France’s decision "is a positive path to preserve the future prospect of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine within its 1967 border and East Jerusalem as its capital under the Two-State Solution," the statement emphasized.
The ministry called on “all countries who have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to follow France’s path,” reaffirming Indonesia's steadfast support for Palestinian statehood.
Macron made the landmark announcement on Thursday, revealing that France would officially recognize Palestine ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in September. "In line with our historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
France's move aligns with a broader European position, as Germany, the UK, and France reiterated their opposition to Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories. As of now, 149 out of 193 UN member states have recognized Palestine as a state.
