Monsoon Rains in India Claim 125 Lives
A report from the state’s Emergency Operations Center revealed that since June, 125 individuals have lost their lives in rain-related events—55 of them in road accidents. An additional 215 people have sustained injuries, and 34 are still unaccounted for.
Fresh downpours battered the Himalayan state again on Monday, forcing road closures and severely hindering ongoing rescue efforts, officials said.
The devastation extends beyond Himachal Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, 18 people have died due to rain-linked incidents, while parts of Rajasthan are grappling with flood-like conditions. Torrential rains have also disrupted everyday life in the country’s northeast, local media reported.
India’s monsoon season, which runs from June through September, is critical for agriculture but frequently leads to destructive floods and deadly landslides.
