Lebanese leader delivers response to US on proposed deal

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has officially delivered Beirut’s response to a U.S. proposal calling for the disarmament of Hezbollah in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, a senior political source told Anadolu Agency on Monday.

The Lebanese presidency confirmed that Aoun met with U.S. envoy Tom Barrack at the presidential palace in eastern Beirut to present the country's position on the matter.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the presidency said that Aoun handed over Lebanon’s formal reply regarding its obligations under the proposed ceasefire agreement with Israel. While details of the response have not been made public, the move marks a key step in ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
