China Supports Diplomacy Ahead of Iran Nuclear Talks

(MENAFN) China on Monday reaffirmed its firm stance that diplomatic dialogue remains the “only way” to resolve the Iranian nuclear dispute.

This declaration coincided with the preparations for renewed nuclear negotiations involving Tehran, France, Germany, and the UK, scheduled to take place in Istanbul.

Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Guo Jiakun highlighted the broader implications of the issue.

She stated, “Iranian nuclear issue is concerned with peace and security in Middle East and is also concerned with the international non-proliferation regime.”

Guo emphasized that Beijing consistently upholds diplomacy as the exclusive and correct method for addressing this matter, underscoring the nation’s long-held viewpoint.

Beijing’s message came ahead of the anticipated talks between Iran and the three European nations—often referred to collectively as the E3—which are set to resume this Friday in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Guo further urged all involved sides to engage constructively, stating, “We call on all parties to walk in the same direction and contribute to political settlement track of the Iranian nuclear issue.”

This diplomatic push follows a meeting last Thursday between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and top officials from the UK, France, Germany, and the EU.

During the discussions, European diplomats underscored the pressing need to return to negotiations and warned of activating the UN “snapback” mechanism—an action that would restore global sanctions—should progress falter.
