Trump Initiates Libel Lawsuit Against Rupert Murdoch

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has initiated a libel lawsuit targeting billionaire Rupert Murdoch and his media conglomerate, challenging a Wall Street Journal article that alleged Trump sent an inappropriate birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.

The complaint, filed Friday in the Southern District of Florida’s federal court, names Murdoch, News Corp, Dow Jones, and two WSJ journalists as defendants, according to several media sources. While the complete lawsuit details remain undisclosed, court documents confirm the case has officially been registered.

“I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his ‘pile of garbage’ newspaper, the WSJ. That will be an interesting experience!!!” Trump declared on Truth Social.

This legal action arises from a WSJ piece released Thursday, which alleged that Trump authored a provocative letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. The article referenced an alleged sketch of a nude woman signed “Donald,” found in a leather-bound album compiled by Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

“I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam... But he did [print it], and now I’m going to sue his ass off,” Trump responded Thursday night.

The lawsuit comes amid mounting criticism of Trump’s approach to the Epstein investigation.

To counter growing doubts from the public, Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to petition the court for the release of grand jury transcripts after the Department of Justice announced no further documents would be disclosed and denied the existence of any Epstein “client list.”

Bondi had previously asserted that such a list was “sitting on [her] desk” and spoke of a “truckload” of troubling FBI files, but later clarified she was referring more generally to case files in her possession.

Epstein, arrested in 2019 on sex trafficking charges, died in jail before facing trial. Although his death was officially ruled a suicide, it has long been met with public skepticism. Ghislaine Maxwell was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
