Iran detains foreign oil tanker suspected of fuel smuggling
The vessel was stopped in the Sea of Oman due to “deficiencies in the legal documents concerning the vessel’s cargo,” stated Mojtaba Ghahremani, judiciary chief for the southern Hormozgan province. Authorities allege that the ship was involved in transporting illicit fuel.
Details regarding the ship’s nationality and its intended destination have not been made public.
Seventeen individuals, including the captain and crew members, are currently being held while the investigation proceeds. Ghahremani explained that officials are working to gather evidence, examine the fuel, verify the documentation, and determine the exact quantity of the cargo. The judiciary is expected to release the investigation's findings upon its conclusion.
