Netanyahu Faces Court Again in Corruption Trial
The session momentarily halted when Netanyahu’s military secretary, Major General Roman Gofman, entered the courtroom, prompting the prime minister to summon him, according to media.
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee was present during the hearing. He commented, “It will be interesting to witness this. President Trump has made his position clear; this is personal for him. He considers Netanyahu a friend. I would say it’s extraordinary that the Prime Minister is on trial during wartime and during negotiations over hostages.”
Netanyahu’s questioning began in January regarding three separate cases—1000, 2000, and 4000—all of which he denies.
Case 1000 accuses Netanyahu and his family of accepting lavish gifts from affluent businessmen in exchange for favors.
Case 2000 alleges secret dealings with a publisher of a news outlet, aiming to secure favorable media coverage.
Case 4000, the most serious, charges Netanyahu with enabling Shaul Elovitch, former owner of the Walla news site and telecommunications firm Bezeq, to receive regulatory benefits in return for positive media exposure.
Netanyahu’s trial, which began on May 24, 2020, marks a historic first as he is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to testify as a criminal defendant.
Additionally, Netanyahu faces war crimes and crimes against humanity accusations. In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged atrocities in Gaza, where nearly 58,500 civilians—primarily women and children—have died since October 2023.
