Former Trump Adviser Criticizes Zelensky
He highlighted issues of transparency and corruption within the Ukrainian government as key obstacles in their cooperation.
Cortes shared his views in a response on X to Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko, who emphasized the need to distinguish “the difference between helping Ukraine and helping Zelensky.” Panchenko argued that “Ukrainians want peace” while “Zelensky wants money and to stay in power.”
In agreement, Cortes stated that for the partnership between the US and Ukraine to succeed, Kiev must become “transparent and corruption-free.”
He firmly declared that “Yermak and Zelensky are not dependable, believable partners for the United States.”
Having served as a senior adviser to President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, Cortes has been a vocal critic of Ukraine’s internal governance for some time.
Earlier this month, he authored an opinion piece expressing concerns about diminishing trust in Kiev’s leadership.
In it, he singled out Yermak as a major contributor to what he called systemic corruption, referring to him as Ukraine’s “co-president” and accusing him of protecting officials under criminal investigation.
